Our School, Peter Howell Elementary, opened as Longfellow Elementary School in 1950.
We are a proud part of the Tucson Unified School District where students love to learn, teachers love to teach, and people love to work!
Our school provides high quality educational experiences for all students who call Peter Howell their School! We have approximately 250 students in preschool to grade 5 for the 2025-2026 school year. Students come from the surrounding neighborhood, as well as from our extended neighborhood which is located near Campbell Avenue and 34th Street. We also accept Open Enrollment students. We are proud to be recognized as a Kind Campus through Ben’s Bells. We strive to meet our students’ individual needs, not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. We are a GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Cluster School. What makes us unique is that all of our teachers have chosen to become GATE endorsed, therefore opening up further academic opportunities for all of our students.

We are an OMA (Opening Minds through the Arts) GOLD School which focuses on music and art integrated instruction. We also offer ecology experiences through our garden/chicken program, Exceptional Education, a full-time Community Liaison, a full-time Counselor, a full-time Reading Interventionist, a full-time Math Interventionist, after school tutoring, Student Council, Robotics Club, Kind Club, cross country, basketball, track, kickball, flag football, Reading Seed, and Restorative Practices.
We always love to have visitors and invite you to stop by to see the great things happening at Peter Howell. You can schedule a tour at https://howelles.tusd1.org/tour-enroll. We invite you to follow us on Facebook & Instagram, too.
