A beautiful yard not only makes your home and Peter Howell neighborhood look better, but it also makes our Tucson environment healthier and more beautiful. When I searched on the internet two years ago how to do it in our neighborhood, I had no idea how far we would come. With help and support of many volunteers, PHNA presented the Beautiful Curb Appeal Contest which ran for three months from March to May with winners selected each week. As a result over 60 yards were nominated and judged on the basis of the landscaping design, neatness and appearance, use of color and effort. Winners were presented with an Award sign on their yard. Thanks to the full page story published in the Arizona Daily Star; “Look who’s pretty now: a front-yard makeover,” our neighborhood received some great exposure.
Beautiful Curb Appeal Final Winners
As a finale, we celebrated at Alvernon Park and recognized our winners. We held a drawing for the winners and in turn they received some beautiful donated prizes such as a Glass sculpture by Israel Hoyer, gift certificates, decorative pot and memberships to the Botanical Garden. Many visitors were welcomed to tour our neighborhood and view the beautiful yards. Dave Carter provided professional photographs to each winner. These photographs were on exhibit at the Tucson Botanical Gardens and viewed by 1700 visitors during June and July. I can not thank you enough for your participation and support during our contest.
